Resistance:
A situation that occurs when bacteria no longer respond to the effects of antibiotic treatment.


Root: The part of the tooth that is not covered by enamel.

Root planing: A dental procedure used to remove plaque and calculus from the root of the tooth. Planing smoothes the root surfaces to promote healing.

Scaling: A dental procedure used to scrape bacterial plaque and calculus from the surfaces of the tooth.

Scaling and root planing (SRP): Cleaning teeth to remove plaque and calculus above and below the gum line, and smoothing the roots of the teeth to promote healing.

Systemically: Means of delivering medicine through the bloodstream to reach the organs.
